Tangi Adopt a Rescue Blog

The Tangi Adopt a Rescue Blog has been covering the story of the most recent incident of apparent mismanagement of the Tangipahoa Parish Animal Shelter. They’ve been collecting links to most of the stories in local and national media, as well as contact information to officials.
It’s notable that few or no articles have named the director of Tangipahoa Parish Animal Shelter, Donald Doty, the man who should be held culpable for this decision. The Humane Society of Louisiana has been aware of him for awhile, as documented by an open letter by its director Jeff Dorson back in January. A relevant sentence:
The Interim Director, Mr. Donald Doty, has no prior experience with shelter management nor he has taken any courses on shelter operations, and he is implementing policies that often run counter to industry standards.
It’s now August. Why was Doty still director? Why was Burgess convinced this was the right man for the job?
The Tangipahoa Parish Council Meeting will be 5:30 PM Mon Aug 11, 2008 at the Parish Annex on Mulberry Street in Amite.

Yes, the he Interim Director, Mr. Donald Doty, needs to be investigated too along with all the rest at TPAC and in the parish that had anything to do or any knowledge pertaining to this mass animal killing.
Sorry we didn’t mention his name yet. It certainly was not because any of us believe Mr. Donald Doty is completely innocent in this matter.
Thank you for covering this issue and posting info on Mr. Donald Doty.

CALL TO ACTION – need to push for independent investigation
Here is part of BestFriends.org news report…
http://www.network.bestfriends.org/louisiana/news/27817.html
(please go read the whole report for more info)
Animal welfare supporters across the state are working to push for an independent investigation of the event. They are asking that others please contact any of the following, and ask for an independent investigation of this incident and of the shelter management and conditions, in general.
UPDATE! CALL TO ACTION! Aug 7, 1:45 pm1. We need as many people as possible from the across the country calling every day requesting that Mr. Doety be removed immediately from his position as shelter director and someone with qualifications replace him. We would also like them to replace the officers and front desk personnel that are unqualified and don’t care about the animals. It would be great to have the phone ringing off the hook tomorrow and Monday during the day to lead up to the meeting Monday night. Phone calls are best right now because they will make it hard for them to get anything else done. If you’re a constituent (calling from the parish), tell them because you carry the most weight!
PLEASE CONTACT:Parish President Gordon Burgess206 E. Mulberry St.Amite, LA 70422P) 985-748-3211Fax) 985-748-7575
You can also CONTACT all of the council members at this site: http://www.tangipahoa.org/Directory/Council/councilmembers.cfmPLEASE DO NOT call their homes. I think this is a little tacky, and we need them on our sides. Some of them may already be. Call their office numbers and send letters!
2. Please attend the Tangipahoa Parish City Council Meeting Monday, August 11 at 5:30 pm at the Parish Annex on Mulberry St. in Amite. Turnout is everything. Please bring people with you!!

Donald Doty, Gordon Burgess, Dr Randall Toney DVM, Jay Callais should all have to speak to the public who now knows about the killing of innocent animals at their hands. Was the board consulted before this was done?

I understand all office furniture, including computers, was discarded in this “clean up effort”. It sounds to me like somebody’s sick idea of EXTREME MAKEOVER.
I understand those who are attending the council meeting tonight are spreading the word to wear black to the meeting. It sounds like a good idea to me.

It is very sad that our growing parish of Tangipahoa has permitted such a thing to be done to our poor helpless animals, some of which weren’t even sick. We can only hope that this crime does not go unpunished & ignored for those involved knew they were doing something wrong by the threats they made to several people, warning them not to tell anyone. If those people would have reached out for help, they would have gotten it. What’s done can’t be undone and will not be forgotten. Every one of those people should be repremanded & a whole new caring group, brought in.
